The much-anticipated Grand Opening of Viejas Hotel took place today amid much fanfare ... and fireworks.
Several hundred guests attended today's Grand Opening of the 5-story, $36 million luxury hotel, which is located on the east side of Viejas Casino approximately 30 miles east of San Diego. Viejas Hotel is one of only three hotels currently under construction in San Diego County. Construction of the hotel created over 400 local construction jobs and more than 60 ongoing local hotel operations jobs.
The Grand Opening of Viejas Hotel featured traditional Kumeyaay Bird Songs, a Native American Blessing, remarks from dignitaries, and a sneak peek of "Rise," a dramatic Cirque-style performance featuring contortionists and acrobats. The full production of the world premiere of "Rise" takes place Saturday, March 23, at Viejas Hotel. The Grand Opening was followed by a fireworks display and the first public tours of the beautifully-appointed public spaces and 128 luxury suites at Viejas Hotel.
The hotel has 99 deluxe rooms and 29 luxurious suites; a pool and hot tub, with an expansive patio area and cabanas; a business center; fitness room and room service. The project also includes a lobby area that connects to Viejas Casino and an expansion of the popular buffet.
Viejas Tribal Chairman Anthony R. Pico thanked the construction workers, Viejas Team Members, loyal casino guests and the community for their support through the years. "Viejas Casino opened in 1991 and has become one of the most successful casinos in California. That kind of success is not achieved alone; it requires dedication and team work. The addition of Viejas Hotel is a major milestone on our journey together. But that journey is far from over. Indeed, I believe we are closer to the beginning than the end of this wonderful journey together, and I look forward to sharing continued success with all the members of our community - tribal and non-tribal."
